Deadline is exclusively reporting that director J.C Chandor is in negotiations with Sony Pictures to direct the Marvel film Kraven the Hunter.
The film will focus on Sergei Kravinoff, also known as Kraven the Hunter, who in the comics is a renowned big-game hunter who aims to kill Spider-Man to prove himself as the world’s greatest hunter, but maintains a code of honour and justice, treating his adversaries as equals. He also happens to be the half-brother of another Spider-Man villain Chameleon.
Matt Tolmach and Avi Arad are attached to produce the project, which Sony have been looking to develop for quite some time, even before this live-action Spider-Man universe has been ramping up recently with projects. The script for this standalone film has been written by Richard Wenk.
This piece of news comes as a slight surprise in terms of timing, as we’re literally just a day removed from the media outlets reporting that Olivia Wilde signed up to direct a untitled Marvel film at Sony Pictures, which rumours predict it to be Spider-Woman.
The studio is nicely plotting out its Spider-Man universe without focusing on Tom Holland’s Peter Parker, as we have the Venom sequel with Tom Hardy titled Venom 2: Let There Be Carnage, as well as Jared Leto starring as Morbius, with both films set for cinematic release in 2021, as well as the third Tom Holland Spider-Man film.
