Joe Exotic Series Starring Nicolas Cage Lands At Amazon For Development

Variety is reporting that the Joe Exotic scripted series starring Nicolas Cage has now been set up for development at Amazon.

The scripted series is based on the Texas Monthly article by Leif Reigstad titled Joe Exotic: A Dark Journey Into The World Of A Man Gone Wild. The series will focus on Joe Schreibvogel aka Joe Exotic, an eccentric, exotic zookeeper in Oklahoma who fights to keep his park even at the risk of losing his sanity. The series will live in the lion’s den with Joe, explore how he became Joe Exotic, and how he lost himself to a character of his own creation.

Back in May earlier in the year it was reported that the eight-episode series will be produced by Imagine Television Studios and CBS Television Studios, with the project being taken to market in the coming days. Dan Lagana and Paul Young optioned the article through Lagana’s overall deal at CBS Television Studios in June 2019. Dan Lagana will serve as writer, showrunner and executive producer on the project, with Paul Young serving as executive producer under the Make Good Content banner. Nicolas Cage will also serve as executive producer under his Saturn Films banner, as will as Imagine’s Brian Grazer and Samie Kim Falvey, as well as Texas Monthly’s Scott Brown and Megan Creydt. James Seidman and Natalie Berkus will oversee the project on behalf of Imagine.

Amazon Studios will now be producing the project alongside Imagine Television Studios and CBS Television Studios.
