Deadline is exclusively reporting that Jonathan Majors will be joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe as he has signed up to star in a leading role opposite Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lily in the third installment of the Ant-Man franchise.
Ant-Man has us following Scott Lang, a thief who must help defend Hank Pym’s Ant-Man shrinking technology and plot a heist with worldwide ramifications. The sequel, Ant-Man and the Wasp, focused on Lang, Hope van Dyne and Hank Pym working together to finding a way to bring back Janet van Dyne from the quantum realm. Ant-Man earned over $519m worldwide at the box office in 2015, with Ant-Man and the Wasp earning over $622.67m worldwide in 2018.
The report states that there’s no comment from Marvel Studios, sources close to the project say that Jonathan Majors (whose recent credits include Da 5 Bloods and Lovecraft Country) is likely to play the villain Kang the Conqueror. Sources also add that there could be a twist with how Kang is presented/featured in the MCU, but as of now he is likely to be one of the main villains in the next installment in the franchise. In the comics, Kang is a time-travelling entity who has battled a whose who of Marvel heroes.
Peyton Reed, whose directed the previous films, is returning to the directors chair for this installment, with Jeff Loveness writing the script.
