Deadline is exclusively reporting that Elisha Cuthbert and Eoin Macken have signed up to star in the upcoming, Ireland-set, horror film The Cellar.
The film tells the story of Keira Woods, whose daughter mysteriously vanishes in the cellar of their new house in the country. Keira soon discovers there is an ancient and powerful entity controlling their home that she will have to face or risk losing her family’s souls forever.
The film is being written and directed by Brendan Muldowney, whose previous film was 2017’s historical action-drama Pilgrimage starring Richard Armitage, Tom Holland and Jon Bernthal. Muldowney will be reuniting and collaborating with Pilgrimage director of photography Tom Comerford, composer Stephen McKeown and production designer Owen Power. Principal photography on the film is scheduled to commence next month in Roscommon, Ireland, with support from Screen Ireland, Epic Pictures, BCP Asset Management, The Wrap Fund and Wallimage, BNP Paribas Fortis Film Finance, VOO & BETV.
The film will be an Irish and Belgian co-production, with Conor Barry of Savage Productions and Richard Bolger of Hail Mary Pictures serving as producers on the project. Benoit Roland from Wrong Men in Belgium will serve as co-producer. Patrick Ewald of Epic Pictures, Lesley McKimm, Screen Ireland and Patrick O’Neill of Wildcard Distribution will serve as executive producers, with Wildcard Distribution aiming to release the film in Irish cinemas next year.
Executive producer Patrick Ewald of Epic Pictures released a statement saying:
Some nightmares are meant to be shared with the world. The Cellar is perhaps the darkest one. The incredible combination of director Brendan Muldowney, producers Conor Barry and Richard Bolger, along with Elisha Cuthbert and Eoin Macken make this unique and riveting horror story something special to capture the attention of buyers at AFM and audiences around the world.
Writer-director Brendan Muldowney released a statement saying:
I’m very excited to be working with such a talented cast and crew to bring the world of The Cellar into people’s nightmares.
Epic Pictures will launch The Cellar at the upcoming American Film Market.
