The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Narcos: Mexico have added nine series regulars for the upcoming third season of the crime series at Netflix. Joining the cast are Luis Gerardo Méndez, Alberto Guerra, Luisa Rubino, Alejandro Furth, Lorenzo Ferro, José Zúñiga, Diego Calva, Kristen Lee Gutoskie and Beau Mirchoff.
The third season will be set in the 90’s and when the globalisation of the drug business ignites, it will examine the war that breaks out after Felix Gallardo’s empire splinters. As newly independent cartels struggle to survive political upheaval and escalating violence, a new generation of Mexican kingpins emerge. But in this war, truth is the first casualty – and every arrest, murder and take-down only pushes real victory further away.
Luis Gerardo Méndez (whose credits include Murder Mystery and Charlie’s Angels) will be playing the role of Victor Tapia, a Juarez cop with a moral dilemma; despite his misgivings over getting involved, he is drawn into the mystery of a series of brutal killings.
Alberto Guerra (whose credits include El Señor de los Cielos and The Pack) will be playing the role of Ismael ‘El Mayo’ Zambada, an independent drug trafficker, whose unassuming manner belies the fact that he is quietly one step ahead of everyone else.
Luisa Rubino (whose credits include Caer en Tentación and Fugitiva) will be playing the role of Andrea Nuñez, a young idealistic and ambitious journalist, whose mission to expose corruption brings her an even bigger story than she anticipated.
While no character descriptions were given for the remainder of the new series regulars, who do know who they’ll be playing. Alejandro Furth (whose credits include Law & Order True Crime and Barry) will be playing Ramon Salgado, Lorenzo Ferro (whose credits include El Ángel and El Marginal) will be playing Alex Hodoyan, José Zúñiga (whose credits include Madam Secretary and Snowfall) will be playing General Rebollo, Diego Calva (whose credits include El Recluso and Unstoppable) will be playing Arturo Beltran Leyva, Kristen Lee Gutoskie (whose credits include Lethal Weapon and The Handmaid’s Tale) will be playing Dani, and Beau Mirchoff (whose credits include Now Apocalypse and Good Trouble) will be playing Steve Sheridan.
A number of guest star casting was also announced today, including singer-rapper Bad Bunny aka Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, who will be playing the role of Arturo ‘Kitty’ Paez, a member of Ramon Arellano Felix’s gang called the ‘Narco Juniors’ who are described as rich, well connected kids from the upper society who fell in with the cartel life for the money, drugs and violence. Other guest stars, including returning star Alberto Ammann as Pacho Herrera, are Yessica Borroto as Marta, Damayanti Quintanar as Hortencia, Manuel Uriza as Carlos Hank Gonzalez and Markin López as Rogelio.
The new additions will join a cast that includes Scoot McNairy, José Maria Yazpik, Alfonso Dosal, Mayra Hermosillo, Matt Letscher, Manuel Masalva, Alejandro Edda and Gorka Lasaosa all returning for the third season.
