Deadline is exclusively reporting that Isaac Powell is the latest name to join the cast of Universal’s film adaptation of the Tony award-winning musical Dear Evan Hansen.
The film is based on the musical play of the same name, with music and lyrics written by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, focuses on Evan Hansen, a high school senior with a severe Social Anxiety disorder, whose letter to himself, one that was not meant to be seen by others, lands into the wrong hands of a fellow classmate who, as a result, commits suicide. This incident sends Evan on a journey of self-discovery and gives him the chance to finally be accepted by his peers and live the life he never dreamed he could have.
The report doesn’t state what role Isaac Powell will make in the film, but this will be his acting debut.
Steven Levenson, who wrote the book for the stage musical, is adapting the screenplay for the big screen, while Stephen Chbosky is attached to direct. Marc Platt and Adam Siegel will be producing the project under their Marc Platt Productions banner.
Isaac Powell will join a cast that includes Ben Platt, Kaitlyn Dever, Amandla Stenberg, Nik Dodani, Amy Adams, Danny Pino, Julianne Moore and DeMarius Copes.
