The Hollywood Reporter is exclusively reporting that Selena Gomez is set to produce and star in In The Shadow Of The Mountain, based on the upcoming memoir of the same name about Peruvian mountaineer and social entrepreneur Silvia Vásquez-Lavado.
The film will tell the story of Silvia Vásquez-Lavado, who became the first Peruvian woman to summit Mount Everest and the first openly gay woman to complete the Seven Summits, a challenge to clim the highest mountain on each continent. Vásquez-Lavado is also the founder of Courageous Girls, a non-profit organisation that helps survivors of sexual abuse and trafficking, and has organised excursions for abuse survivors to the Mount Everest base camp.
The memoir is expected to be published in 2022. Elgin James is attached to write and direct the biopic, with Selena Gomez producing through her July Moon Productions banner alongside Scott Budnick of One Community and Donna Gigliotti of Tempesta Films. Silvia Vásquez-Lavado will be executive producing alongside Lara Love Hardin of Idea Architects.
Donna Gigliotti released a statement saying:
Silvia is a force of nature. Scott and I are so excited to work with Elgin and Selena to tell this story of resilience, courage, adventure and humanity.
Scott Budnick released a statement saying:
We are thrilled to get to work bringing Silvia’s incredible and inspiring story to life onscreen.
