Deadline is reporting that Amazon have confirmed twenty new additions to the cast of the upcoming epic fantasy series adaptation of The Lord Of The Rings.
The synopsis for the upcoming series, tweeted by the official twitter page for the series (along with a map) is as follows:
One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them, One Ring to bring them all, and in the darkness bind them, In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie. Welcome to the Second Age.
In the Tolkien mythology, the Second Age was the time in which the Rings of Power, including Sauron’s One Ring, came into existence.
The report states that Lenny Henry, Peter Mullan, Lloyd Owen, Augustus Prew, Peter Tait, Benjamin Walker, Cynthia Addai-Robinson, Simon Merrells, Maxim Baldry, Ian Blackburn, Kip Chapman, Anthony Crum, Maxine Cunliffe, Trystan Gravelle, Thusitha Jayasundera, Fabian McCallum, Geoff Morrell, Alex Tarrant, Leon Wadham and Sara Zwangobani are the latest additions to the ever expanding ensemble.
While Maxim Baldry was reported last year to join the cast, this announcement from Amazon themselves finally confirmed it. The report also states that while no information has been provided as to who the new additions will be playing, they do believe that Lloyd Owen will be playing the role of Loda, an earthy man.
J.D Payne and Patrick McKay, executive producers and showrunners of the series, released a statement saying:
The world that J.R.R. Tolkien created is epic, diverse, and filled with heart. These extraordinarily talented performers, hailing from across the globe, represent the culmination of a multi-year search to find brilliant and unique artists to bring that world to life anew. The international cast of Amazon’s The Lord of the Rings series is more than just an ensemble. It is a family. We are thrilled to welcome each of them to Middle-earth.
The series is currently filming its first season and has already been renewed for a second, with J.A Bayona directing the first two episodes and serving as executive producer alongside creative partner Belén Atienza, as well as Lindsey Weber, Bruce Richmond, Callum Greene, Gennifer Hutchison, Jason Cahill, Justin Doble and Sharon Tal Yguado.
The new additions will join a cast that includes Markella Kavenagh, Joseph Mawle, Ema Horvath , Morfydd Clark, Robert Aramayo, Owain Arthur, Nazanin Boniadi, Tom Budge, Ismael Cruz Córdova, Tyroe Muhafidin, Sophia Nomvete, Megan Richards, Dylan Smith, Charlie Vickers and Daniel Weyman.
