Jon Favreau cleared up any possible confusion on the Good Morning America show today that the post-credit sequence in The Mandalorian season two finale will indeed lead to another spinoff series, The Book of Boba Fett, which is currently in production.
Temuera Morrison will be starring as the titular bounty hunter alongside Ming-Na Wen as Fennec Shand, with The Book of Boba Fett series being set within the timeline of The Mandalorian.
Jon Favreau also stated that the third season of The Mandalorian will begin production next year. There was initial speculation amongst fans over the weekend whether the post-credit tease, and the fact that the spinoff wasn’t mentioned at the Disney Investors Day the week before would have Boba Fett be in the primary focus in the third season of The Mandalorian, but obviously after Favreau’s appearance on GMA that isn’t the case.
Robert Rodriguez, who directed the episode that reintroduced Boba Fett properly in The Mandalorian, will be serving as executive producer on the spinoff series alongside Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni.
The Book of Boba Fett will premiere on Disney+ on December 2021.
