1Up: Ruby Rose Replaces Elliot Page In Esports Comedy

The Hollywood Reporter is exclusively reporting that Ruby Rose has signed up to co-star opposite Paris Berelc in the Lionsgate and Buzzfeed Esports comedy 1Up as Elliot Page departs the project.

The film focuses on a female gamer named Vivian Lee who quits her college eSports team rather than put up with sexism from her male counterparts. But with her scholarship on the line, she is forced to assemble a Varsity-caliber, all-women’s team that can compete with the boys. With the help of an enigmatic coach who returns to the spotlight after her own GamerGate scandal, the young woman recruits an unlikely crew of unskilled misfits to kick some serious gamer butt.

The report also states that Taylor Zakhar Perez, Hari Nef and Nicholas Coombe have also joined the cast, with the film currently in production in Toronto.

Kyle Newman is directing the first feature from BuzzFeed Studios, with their mission being to develop and produce what they see as socially relevant and high-concept feature films for global millennial and Gen Z audiences. The script is written by Julia Yorks. BuzzFeed’s Richard Alan Reid will be producing alongside Michael Philip and Jason Moring.
