The Last Of Us: Pedro Pascal And Bella Ramsey To Star In Series Adaptation Of Video Game Franchise At HBO

Deadline is exclusively reporting that Pedro Pascal has signed up to play the role of Joel, while The Hollywood Reporter is exclusively reporting that Bella Ramsey has signed up to play the role of Ellie in HBO’s series adaptation of the popular video game franchise The Last Of Us.


The Last Of Us is set twenty years after modern civilisation has been destroyed by a sickness that renders victims dangerous, blood-thirsty mutants. Hardened survivor Joel is hired to smuggle Ellie, a fourteen-year-old girl out of an oppressive quarantine zone. What starts as a small job soon becomes a brutal, breathtaking journey as the unlikely duo depends on each other for survival.


Pedro Pascal (whose recent credits include The Mandalorian and Wonder Woman 1984) will star as Joel, tormented by past trauma and failure, must trek across a pandemic-ravaged America, all the while protecting a girl who represents the last hope of humanity.


Bella Ramsey (whose credits include Game of Thrones and His Dark Materials) will star as Ellie, a fourteen-year-old orphan was has never known anything but a ravaged planet and who struggles to balance her instinct for anger and defiance with her need for connection and belonging…as well as the newfound reality that she may be the key to saving the world.


The first game from Sony and game developer Naughty Dog, became a critical and commercial hit when it was released in 2013 for PlayStation 3, winning numerous game of the year awards and selling more than 17m units, spawning a sequel that was released last year. The series is a co-production between HBO and Sony Pictures Television, with the series being produced by Naughty Dog, Playstation Productions, Word Games and The Mighty Mint. Naughty Dog’s Evan Wells will serve as executive producer alongside Carolyn Strauss, Asad Qizilbash, and Carter Swan of Playstation Productions.


The series is being written by Chernobyl limited series creator Craig Mazin, and will also serve as executive producer alongside Neil Druckmann, writer and creative director of the video game franchise, and Kantemir Balagov will direct the pilot.
