Deadline is reporting that Neon’s label Super Ltd has acquired the North American rights for the Bosnian war drama Quo Vadis, Aida?, which is shortlisted in the Best International Feature category for the Academy Awards.
The official synopsis for the film is as follows:
Bosnia, July 1995. Aida is a translator for the UN in the small town of Srebrenica. When the Serbian army takes over the town, her family is among the thousands of citizens looking for shelter in the UN camp. As an insider to the negotiations Aida has access to crucial information that she needs to interpret. What is at the horizon for her family and people, rescue or death? Which move should she take?
Dan O’Meara and Darcy Heusel negotiated the deal for Super Ltd with Nicolas Eschbach and Simon Gabriele of Indie Sales. Having caught the film at International Film Festival Rotterdam I highly recommend that you seek it out when you can, not only when Super Ltd release it in North America, but also for those in the UK via Curzon Home Cinema.
The film is directed by Jasmila Žbanić and stars Jasna Đuričić, Izudin Bajrović, Boris Ler, Dino Bajrović, Dino Bajrović, Emir Hadžihafizbegović, Raymond Thiry, Johan Heldenbergh, Joes Brauers, Reinout Bussemaker, Teun Luijkx, Ermin Sijamija, Ermin Bravo, Sol Vinken, Micha Hulshof, Juda Goslinga, Alban Ukaj and Edita Malovčić.
