TheWrap is exclusively reporting that Rachel Zegler has signed up for a key role in the upcoming Shazam! sequel Shazam: Fury Of The Gods.
In the 2019 original from DC Films and New Line, we focused on young foster kid Billy Baston being placed into a group home run by Victor and Rosa Vazquez, who have five other foster kids: Mary, Pedro, Eugene, Darla and Freddy. When at school, Billy saves Freddy from two bullies and is chased into the subway where he escapes from them. This leads to Billy being summoned by a dying wizard who chooses him as champion to transfer and carry on his magic if he just holds onto the staff and says his name…Shazam!
Rachel Zegler, a singer/songwriter raised in New Jersey, will be making her acting debut in Steven Spielberg’s remake of West Side Story, where she was one of thirty-thousand to audition for the role of Maria. While her role is being kept under lock and key at the studio, it hasn’t stopped fans online speculating who she could be playing, with ‘Rachel Zegler Zatanna’ in particular being the third trending result if you type in her full name on the twitter search engine…time will tell on that one.
Zegler will join a returning cast that includes Asher Angel, Zachary Levi, Jack Dylan Grazer, Adam Brody, Faithe Herman, Meagan Good, Michelle Borth and Marta Milans. David F. Sandberg is also returning to direct.
Shazam: Fury Of The Gods is currently scheduled for cinematic release on 2nd June 2023.
