Shadow and Act is exclusively reporting a Superman film is in the early stages of development from DC Films and Warner Bros., with Ta-Nehisi Coates attached to write the script, with J.J. Abrams to produce under his Bad Robot label alongside Hannah Minghella.
Ta-Nehisi Coates released a statement to Shadow and Act, saying:
To be invited into the DC Extended Universe by Warner Bros., DC Films and Bad Robot is an honour. I look forward to meaningfully adding to the legacy of American’s most iconic mythic hero.
J.J. Abrams released a statement to S&A, saying:
There is a new, powerful and moving Superman story yet to be told. We couldn’t be more thrilled to be working with the brilliant Mr. Coates to help bring that story to the big screen, and we’re beyond thankful to the team at Warner Bros. for the opportunity.
Toby Emmerich, Chairman at Warner Bros. Pictures Group, released a statement saying:
Ta-Nehisi Coates Between the World and Me opened a window and changed the way many of us see the world. We’re confident that his take on Superman will give fans a new and exciting way to see the Man of Steel.
Deadline is also reporting on the story, saying that Henry Cavill is not attached, though he is eager to get back into the cape, but upon reading the quotes from the S&A article, it feels like they’re going to be moving on with a different actor.
Ta-Nehisi Coates is an acclaimed author, journalist and writer, with a few books becoming bestsellers, with one in particular (The World and Me) winning the National Book Award in 2015. He also has experience writing for Marvel Comics, mainly on issues for Black Panther and Captain America.
