Variety is exclusively reporting that singer/songwriter and actor Reeve Carney has been cast as Jeff Buckley in the upcoming biopic Everybody Here Wants You, with veteran producer Orian Williams making his directorial debut.
The film will be a dramatisation of Jeff Buckley’s story. Jeff met his father, singer-songwriter Tim Buckley, whose own music spurred an intense following, only once. Tim Buckley died in 1975, but his estranged son did possess the same gift for music as he released one album in 1994, Grace, which rocketed him to the top of the critics lists and inspired a deep fandom, and left a legacy of what-ifs as he tragically passed away in 1997.
The film project has the full support of the Buckley estate and enable them to have access to Bukley’s music. Culmination Productions will be producing and handling worldwide sales at the virtual European Film Market, with Harry White overseeing sales on behalf of the company. Also producing are Tom Butterfield alongside Buckley’s mother, Mary Guibert, and Alison Raykovich, manager of his estate and Vice-President of Jeff Buckley Music.
Mary Guibert released a statement saying:
This will be the only official dramatisation of Jeff’s story which I can promise his fans will be true to him and to his legacy. Thankfully, my determination to assemble all the right participants, no matter how long it took, is about to culminate in the best way possible.
Richard Story, President, commercial music group, Sony Music Entertainment, released a statement saying:
Jeff Buckley was a once-in-a-lifetime artist whose music touched people’s hearts and changed their lives. Sony Music has been honoured to bring Jeff’s music to the world and now, ‘Everybody Here Wants You’ is providing a unique opportunity to introduce Jeff to a whole new generation of fans.
Orian Williams released a statement saying:
I’m honoured to have the opportunity to step into the director’s seat to tell Jeff’s story. Dionne Jones’ beautiful script brings together all the elements of Jeff’s life into one intimate and visual story.
Orian Williams is no stranger to a music biopic project, having been a producer on Control, a biopic about Joy Division frontman Ian Curtis. With cinematographer Roberto Schaefer also attached, filming is scheduled to commence later in the year.
