The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Helen Mirren is the latest name to join the cast for the upcoming Shazam! sequel Shazam: Fury of the Gods.
In the 2019 original from DC Films and New Line, we focused on young foster kid Billy Baston being placed into a group home run by Victor and Rosa Vazquez, who have five other foster kids: Mary, Pedro, Eugene, Darla and Freddy. When at school, Billy saves Freddy from two bullies and is chased into the subway where he escapes from them. This leads to Billy being summoned by a dying wizard who chooses him as champion to transfer and carry on his magic if he just holds onto the staff and says his name…Shazam!
The report states that Helen Mirren (whose recent credits in Hobbs & Shaw and The Good Liar) will be playing the villain role of Hespera, the daughter of Atlas, with sources telling THR that she and recently cast Rachel Zegler will play sisters who both may or may not be of ill intent.
Also returning for the sequel are Asher Angel, Zachary Levi, Jack Dylan Grazer, Adam Brody, Faithe Herman, Meagan Good, Michelle Borth and Marta Milans.
Shazam: Fury Of The Gods is currently scheduled for cinematic release on 2nd June 2023.
