The 2018 film revealed the origin story of half-human, half-Atlantean Arthur Curry and took him on the journey of his lifetime–one that would not only force him to face who he really is, but to discover if he was worthy of who he was born to be… a king.

The report states that Warner Bros. gave no comment to the story, and that it’s unknown who Asbæk could be potentially playing nor what the plot for the sequel is. The film was a massive box office hit for the studio, earning over $1.1bn worldwide.

Believed to be returning for the sequel, alongside Jason Momoa, are Amber Heard, Patrick Wilson, Temuera Morrison and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, according to the IMDb page for the sequel. James Wan will be directing as well as producing alongside Peter Safran, with David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick writing the script.

Aquaman 2 is currently scheduled for cinematic release on the 16th December 2022.
