Deadline is reporting that Finn Wittrock has signed up to star as Guy Gardner in the upcoming DC drama series Green Lantern at HBO Max.
Based on the DC Comics character, the series is said to reinvent the property with the story spanning decades and galaxies, beginning on Earth in 1941 with the very first Green Lantern, secretly gay FBI agent Alan Scott, and 1984, with cocky alpha-male Guy Gardner and half-alien Bree Jarta. They’ll be joined by a multitude of other Lanterns, from comic book favourites to never-before-seen heroes.
Finn Wittrock (whose credits include American Horror Story and Ratched) will play Guy Gardner, described as a hulking mass of masculinity, and, as rendered in the comics, an embodiment of 1980’s hyper-patriotism. And yet, Guy is somehow likeable.
Wittrock is the first actor to be cast in the series, which has been in development since 2019, which is being written by Greg Berlanti, Marc Guggenheim and Seth Grahame-Smith. The trio also serve as executive producers on the project alongside Geoff Johns, Sarah Schechter, David Madden and David Katzenberg. Elizabeth Hunter and Sara Saedi serve as co-executive producers.
