Deadline is exclusively reporting that Thomas McKenzie has signed up to star as Olympian gymnast Kerri Strug in Searchlight’s Perfect, with Olivia Wilde directing.
The film is said to be an intimate and unflinching portrait of grit and determination, charting the story behind Strug’s historic Olympic vault to secure America’s first ever gymnastics team gold.
The report states that even though Wilde is currently in post-production of her upcoming film, Don’t Worry Darling, she has been meeting with talent for the last few months for the role of Strug and, in the end, McKenzie blew away Wilde and executives during her audition, landing the role. The script for the biopic is being written by Ronnie Sandahl, with Nick Bower and Jeremy Baxter serving as producers through Riverstone Pictures alongside Thomas Benski and Moss Barclay through Pulse Films. Deepak Nayer of Riverstone and Marisa Clifford of Pulse will serve as executive producers alongside Wilde and Sandahl.
Production on Perfect is set to commence later in the year.
