Media outlets are reporting that DC drama series Stargirl has been renewed for a third season at CW, a few months before its second season premiere.
The series follows High School sophomore Courtney Whitmore as she inspires an unlikely group of young heroes to stop the villains of the past, as the series reimagines Stargirl and the very first superhero team, the Justice Society of America. The Stargirl comics were created by Geoff Johns back in 1999, known as Courtney Whitmore, who receives her powers by wielding Starman’s Cosmic staff and wears the Cosmic Converter Belt which gives her agility and enhanced reflexes.
Mark Pedowitz, CEO of CW, released a statement saying:
We are beyond proud to continue to share the stories of Nicky Shen and Courtney Whitmore, two strong, powerful young women at the center of this new generation of hit shows for The CW. While each boasts remarkable talent on both sides of the camera, Kung Fu and DC’s Stargirl have not only treated fans to some visually stunning action and high-flying heroics, but they also both strike very powerful emotional chords as they delve into the family dynamics and personal relationships at their core, and we are so excited to see what happens next.
The second season of Stargirl will star Brec Bassinger, Yvette Monreal, Anjelika Washington, Cameron Gellman, Trae Romano, Meg DeLacy, Amy Smart, Luke Wilson, Hunter Sansone, Henry Thomas, Eric Goins, Neil Hopkins, Joy Osmanski, Nelson Lee, Hina Khan, Mark Ashworth, Joel McHale, Alkoya Brunson, Nick Taraby, Jonathan Cake and Ysa Penarejo.
