The Marsh King’s Daughter: Ben Mendelsohn Joins Cast For Psychological Thriller

Deadline is exclusively reporting that Ben Mendelsohn is set to star opposite Daisy Ridley in the film adaptation of Karen Dionne’s novel The Marsh King’s Daughter, with Neil Burger directing.

The film focuses on Helena, a woman living a seemingly ordinary life, but hiding a dark secret: her father is the infamous ‘Marsh King’, the man who kept her and her mother captive in the wilderness for years. After a lifetime of trying to escape her past, Helena is forced to face her demons when her father unexpectedly escapes from prison.

Ben Mendelsohn (whose recent credits include Babyteeth and The Outsider) will be playing the role of Jacob Holbrook, the infamous ‘Marsh King’.

Dionne’s novel is being adapted for the big screen by Mark L. Smith and Elle Smith. Black Bear Pictures’ Teddy Schwarzman, Anonymous Content’s Keith Redmon and Mark L. Smith will serve as producers on the project.

The film is being developed by Black Bear Pictures, Anonymous Content and STX, who recently acquired the U.S rights. Principal photography on the project is scheduled to commence next month in Canada.
