Code 8 Part II: Netflix Acquires Worldwide Rights For Sci-Fi Sequel

Netflix Co-CEO and Chief Content Officer, Ted Sarandos, announced today at the Banff World Media Festival that the streamer have acquired the worldwide rights for sci-fi film Code 8: Part II.

.

Code 8 is set in a world where 4% of the population is born with some type of supernatural ability, but instead of being billionaires or superheroes, most ‘specials’ face discrimination, often being confronted by advanced, militarised police technology, and live in poverty.

.

In Code 8: Part II, it follows the journey of a teenage girl fighting to get justice for her slain brother at the hands of corrupt police officers. After becoming a witness to the cover-up, she becomes a target and enlists the help of an ex-con, Connor Reed, and his former partner-in-crime, Garrett. Together, they face a highly regarded and well protected police sergeant who will use every tool to prevent himself from being exposed.

.

The film marks Netflix’s first original Canadian English-language film acquisition. Original director Jeff Chan, as well as stars Robbie Amell and Stephen Amell, are returning for the sequel, as well as serving as producers alongside Chris Paré.

.

The report states that Code 8: Part II will commence production in Canada and will be released on Netflix later in the year.
