The Hyperions: Saban Films Acquire North American Rights For Indie Superhero Film

The film focuses on Professor Ruckus Mandelbaum, who in the 1960s invents the Titan badge, which gives humans superpowers. He creates an unusual family of superheroes who rise to fame and prestige. But over time the family fractures. By 1979 however, two of the original superheroes go to extraordinary lengths to get their Titan badges back.

The deal marks the first one to be announced at this week’s Pre-Cannes Screenings virtual market, with the acquisition negotiated by Steve Break on behalf of Saban Films and Archstone Entertainment’s Jack Sheehan on behalf of the filmmakers. Archstone are also representing the worldwide rights to the film at the virtual market.

The film is written and directed by Jon McDonald, who also produced under his American Millimetre’s banner alongside Justin Bell of Justin Bell Productions, and Jon Michael Kondrath of ReKon Productions. Jack Sheehan executive produces alongside ReKon Productions’ Lisha Yakub, Scott Martin and Michael Slifkin.

The Hyperion stars Cary Elwes, Penelope Mitchell, Tanner Buchanan, Elaine Tan and Alphonso McAuley, with Saban Films now scheduling the film for cinematic release sometime in February 2022.
