The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Starz have given Power prequel series, Power Book III: Raising Kanan, a second season renewal ahead of its first season premiere next week.
Power Book III: Raising Kanan, is a prequel series set in the 1990’s that will chronicle the early years of Kanan Stark, whose world revolves around his mother Raq, who raised him by herself. She is his everything. At the same time, he is beginning to get a sense of not only the world around him but his place in said world. Kanan wants to be just like his mother…and that’s the problem. He’s young and wide-eyed and doesn’t know how the hustle works. And even more important, his mother is not nearly as keen as he is for him to follow in her footsteps. Theirs is a complicated relationship that only gets more problematic as time goes on.
Jeffrey Hirsch, president and CEO of Starz, released a statement saying:
One season isn’t enough to tell the coming-of-age story of Kanan Stark and his mother, Raq, a fierce and successful woman who is a force of nature. The anticipation globally for more of the Power universe made it clear that Kanan’s story needs to continue.
Series creator, Sascha Penn, will continue to be showrunner on the second season, whilst also executive producing alongside franchise creator Courtney A. Kemp, Curtis ’50 Cent’ Jackson, Mark Canton of Atmosphere Entertainment, Chris Selak of End of Episode, Shana Stein, Bart Wenrich and Kevin Fox.
Power Book III: Raising Kanan stars Omar Epps, Patina Miller, Mekai Curtis, Hailey Kilgore, Lovie Simone, London Brown, Malcolm Mays, Shanley Caswell, Toby Sandeman, Joey Bada$$, Quincy Brown, Ade Chike Torbert, Natalee Linez and Annabelle Zasowski.
