Deadline is reporting that Adrian Holmes, Cassandra Freeman, Olly Sholotan, Coco Jones, Akira Akbar, Jimmy Akingbola, Jordan L. Jones and Simone Joy Jones are the latest names to join the cast for the Fresh Prince reboot, Bel-Air, at Peacock.
.
Set in modern-day America, Bel-Air is a serialised one-hour dramatic analogue of the 90’s sitcom that leans into the original premise: Will’s complicated journey from the streets of West Philadelphia to the gated mansions of Bel-Air. With a reimagined vision, Bel-Air will dive deeper into the inherent conflicts, emotions and biases that were impossible to fully explore in a thirty-minute sitcom format, while still delivering swagger and nods to the original show.
.
Adrian Holmes (whose credits include 19-2 and V-Wars) will be playing the role of Phillip Banks, originally portrayed by the late James Avery. Cassandra Freeman (whose credits include The Enemy Within and The Last O.G.) will be playing the role of Vivian Banks, originally portrayed by Jane Hubert and Daphne Maxwell Reid. Olly Sholotan (whose credits include Run Hide Fight and Evolution) will be playing the role of Carlton Banks, originally portrayed by Alfonso Ribeiro. Coco Jones (whose credits include Let It Shine and Vampires vs. The Bronx) will be playing the role of Hilary Banks, originally portrayed by Karyn Parsons.
Akira Akbar (whose credits include We Can Be Heroes and Good Trouble) will be playing the role of Ashley Banks, originally portrayed by Tatyana M. Ali. Jimmy Akingbola (whose credits include In The Long Run and Kate & Koji) will be playing the role of Geoffrey, originally portrayed by Joseph Marcell. Jordan L. Jones (whose credits include Rel and All Rise) will be playing the role of Jazz, originally portrayed by DJ Jazzy Jeff. Simone Joy Jones (whose credits include The Chair and The Son of No One) will be playing the role of Lisa, originally portrayed by Nia Long.
.
The new additions will join Jabari Banks.
.
The series is based on Morgan Cooper’s popular fan film that re-envisioned the original series, leading to Will and Jada Pinkett Smith’s Westbrook Studios and Universal Television looking to develop the concept into a series, leading to it receiving a two-season order last year from Peacock.
.
T.J. Brady and Rasheed Newson serve as executive producers and co-showrunners on the series, while Cooper serves as co-writer and executive producer. Also executive producing are Will Smith, Quincy Jones, Terence Carter, James Lassiter, Miguel Melendez, Malcolm Spellman, Benny Medina and Andy and Susan Borowitz.
