Deadline is exclusively reporting that Will Poulter will be joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe as he has signed up to play the role of Adam Warlock in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

While the plot for the third film in the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise is being kept under wraps, Adam Warlock was teased in the post-credit scene of Vol. 2, where Ayesha unveils to her chambermaid that she has created the perfect Sovereign to destroy the Guardians once and fo all. Adam Warlock made his first appearance in Marvel Comics back in 1967, where a group of scientists used cloning and genetic modification to create the perfect human being.

Sources told Deadline that James Gunn and execs begin the process of looking for the right actor to play Warlock back in August, with Poulter (whose credits include Detroit and Dopesick) meeting along with several other actors (with sources telling The Hollywood Reporter that Regé-Jean Page and George MacKay were also shortlisted) for the role.

Will Poulter will join a cast that includes Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, Sean Gunn and Elizabeth Debicki.

Production on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3 is expected to commence in November, with the film scheduled for cinematic release on the 5th May 2023.
