Deadline is exclusively reporting that Mel Gibson has signed on to star in the John Wick prequel series The Contintental.
.
The Continental will explore the origin behind the hotel-for-assassin, which has become the centrepiece of the John Wick universe. The primary focuses will be on a young Winston Scott, who is dragged into the Hell-scape of a 1975 New York City to face a past he thought he’d left behind. Winston charts a deadly course through New York’s mysterious underworld in a harrowing attempt to seize the iconic hotel, which serves as the meeting point for the world’s most dangerous criminals.
.
Mel Gibson (whose recent credits include Fatman and Boss Level) will be playing the role of Cormac. It’s still not known at this time whether Ian McShane will appear in the series as he portrays Winston in the John Wick films.
.
The series is being written by Greg Coolidge and Kirk Ward, who will also serve as showrunners as well as executive producers. Thunder Road Pictures’ Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee, Chad Stahelski, Derek Kolstad, David Leitch, Shawn Simmons, Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese will also serve as executive producers.
.
The Continental will be presented as a three-night event TV series produced for Starz by Lionsgate Television.
