Deadline is exclusively reporting that Ana de Armas is in negotiations with Lionsgate to star as the lead for the John Wick spinoff film Ballerina.
.
The film focuses on a young female assassin who seeks revenge against the people who killed her family. The character that de Armas could potentially be playing briefly appeared as a ballerina who is also training to be an assassin in John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum.
.
Deadline also reports that it’s believed that the project will have a considerable budget, said to be somewhere between the $50m to $80m range, and there while it is unclear at this present time about Keanu Reeves making a appearance, there is hope that he and Anjelica Huston may provide cameos in the film.
.
As Ana de Armas’s stardom is really starting to take flight, after her performances in Knives Out, as well as her brief but memorable appearance in No Time To Die, and then there’s her upcoming projects to be released such as the big-budget Russo Brothers spy thriller The Gray Man and the Marilyn Monroe biopic Blonde, this is a very smart bit of casting and a smart move on the studios part.
.
The film is written by Shay Hatten, with Len Wiseman attached to direct, and Basil Iwanyk, Erica Lee and Chad Stahelski serving as producers. Brady Fujikawa and Chelsea Kujawa are overseeing the project for the Lionsgate.
