Media outlets are reporting that Starz have renewed wrestling drama series Heels for a second season.
The official synopsis for the series is as follows:
Heels is a story about the men and women who chase their dreams in the world of small town pro wrestling. Set in a close-knit Georgia community, it follows a family-owned wrestling promotion as two brothers and rivals, Jack Spade and Ace Spade, war over their late father’s legacy. In the ring, somebody must play the good guy and somebody must play their nemesis, the heel. But in the real world, those characters can be hard to live up to — or hard to leave behind.
Jeffrey Hirsch, President and CEO of Starz, released a statement saying:
It’s clear from the critical and fan acclaim that the stories and characters from the Duffy Wrestling League have made a connection with audiences bringing a community that is not often found to premium TV. I’m excited for our amazing cast and executive producers to get back into the ring together for a second season.
Mike O’Malley will remain as showrunner for the second season, as well as recur as Charlie Gully. The report also states that Trey Tucker and Robby Ramos will be promoted to series regular status for the second season. The series is written and created by Michael Waldron, who serves as executive producer alongside O’Malley, director Peter Segal, Julie Yorn, Christopher Donnelly and Patrick Walmsley.
The first season stars Stephen Amell, Alexander Ludwig, Alison Luff, Kelli Berglund, Chris Bauer, Allen Maldonado, James Harrison, Mary McCormack, Trey Tucker, Robby Ramos, David James Elliott and Joel Murray.
