Deadline is reporting that Tobias Lindholm and Jeremy Strong have been quietly developing a scripted series based on the first responders of 9/11 titled The Best Of Us, with Lindholm to write and direct and Strong to star.

.

The Best Of Us asks who takes care of the people that take care of us? It will explore the human fallout of the September 11 terrorist attacks with its rain of debris and toxic dust. Through a mosaic of characters including first responders, students, teachers, New Yorkers and volunteers working on The Pile, it examines how they were affected and how we treated them. It confronts a failing system and celebrates the very best of us.

.

The news of the series comes after Lindholm signed a first-look deal with Chernobyl producer Sister, making The Best of Us the first project to get developed. The project will be reliant on heavily researched accounts, which is where journalist Chris Smith comes in as he’s collaborating with Lindholm and Strong as he’s written extensively on 9/11 for the likes of Vanity Fair and New York magazine.

.

Sister’s Stacey Snider released a statement saying:

We are fortunate to have Jeremy as a partner with Tobias on The Best of Us, and we look forward to their thoughtful and human depiction of those heroes that serve on the frontlines for the greater good.

.

Lindholm and Strong will executive produce alongside Kate Fenske, while Carolyn Strauss and Smith will serve as consulting producers.
