Flashdance: Justin Simien To Adapt And Direct Series Reboot At Paramount+

Deadline is reporting that Justin Simien has been brought onboard by Paramount+ to adapt and direct the series adaptation of the 1983 film Flashdance.

In the 1983 film, which was directed by Adrian Lyne and starred Jennifer Beals, we followed the journey of Alex Owens, an eighteen-year-old who works as a welder at the local steel mill by day and as a sensual dancer at a cabaret bar by night, who aspires of becoming a professional ballerina.

Reports state that the series will be a contemporary take on the film, focusing on a young black woman with ballet-dreams and a strip club reality who struggles to find her place in the world while navigating romance, money, art, friendship and how to love herself.

The project has been in development since late October 2020, with Tracy McMillian originally being brought on board to write the script and Angela Robinson originally on board to direct.
