BBC and Hulu have released the teaser trailer for the upcoming series adaptation of Sally Rooney’s novel Conversations With Friends.

The 12-part series follows the story of two Dublin college students, Frances and Bobbi, and the strange and unexpected connection they forge with married couple, Melissa and Nick. Frances and Bobbi are inseparable former lovers who become fascinated by Melissa and Nick to the point that Nick and Frances embark on an intense secret affair. Soon the affair begins to test the bond between Frances and Bobbi, forcing Frances to reconsider her sense of self and her friendship.

This marks BBC and Hulu’s second adaptation of a Sally Rooney novel, with Lenny Abrahamson, who directed Normal People, lead director here, and writers on the series are Alice Birch, Mark O’Halloran, Meadhbh McHugh and Susan Soon He Stanton. Catherine Magee serves as series producer, Jeanie Igoe serves as producer, and Ed Guiney, Emma Norton, Andrew Lowe, Tommy Bulfin, Sally Rooney and Lenny Abrahamson serve as executive producers.

The series stars Joe Alwyn, Jemima Kirke, Sasha Lane, and Alison Oliver.

Conversations With Friends will air on BBC Three in the UK and on Hulu in the US in May 2022.
