TheWrap is exclusively reporting that George Lopez, Adriana Barraza, Elpidia Carrillo and Damián Alcázar are the latest names to join the cast for the upcoming DC film Blue Beetle at Warner Bros.

The Blue Beetle character debut in DC Comics back in 1939, where Blue Beetle’s powers are derived from a sacred scarab. There has been three characters in the comics that have been Blue Beetle and the film will focus on Jamie Reyes, who made his first appearance in 2006. Reyes discovered the Blue Beetle scarab on the way home from school, half-buried in a disused lot. The scarab would come to life and graft itself onto Jaime’s spine, providing him with a suit of extraterrestrial armour which can be modified to enhance his speed and strength, as well as to create weapons, wings and shields. Jaime Reyes was created by Keith Giffen, John Rogers and Cully Hamner.

George Lopez (whose credits include No Man’s Land and The Tax Collector) will be playing the role of Uncle Rudy, Adriana Barraza (whose credits include Penny Dreadful: City of Angels and We Can Be Heroes) will be playing the role of Nana, Elpidia Carrillo (whose credits include Songbird and Mayans M.C) will be playing the role of Rocio and Damián Alcázar (whose credits include Narcos and Acapulco) will be playing the role of Alberto.

The film will star Xolo Maridueña as the lead, with Angel Manuel Soto directing and the screenplay written by Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer. John Rickard is producing. The new additions will join a cast that also includes Harvey Guillén, Bruna Marquezine and Belissa Escobedo.

Blue Beetle is scheduled for cinematic release on the 18th August 2023.
