Kemp Powers To Adapt And Jeymes Samuel To Direct Film Based On Comic Book Series Irredeemable And Incorruptible

Netflix have announced that they are developing a live-action feature project that is an adaptation of the bestselling Boom! Studios comic series Irredeemable and its sister comic series Incorruptible, with Kemp Powers set to adapt and Jeymes Samuel set to direct.

.

The Irredeemable comic focuses on the fall of the world’s most powerful and beloved superhero, the god-like Plutonian, who inexplicably begins slaughtering everyone on Earth. The superhero group, The Paradigm, attempt to find a way to stop his rampage while dealing with their own problems of betrayal and hopelessness. The only person that can stop the Plutonian is his former arch-nemesis, the super-powered villain Max Damage. Unwillingly thrust into the role of saviour, Max must uncover the Plutonian’s mysterious past in order to discover how to bring him down. But can he discover what made the Plutonian go crazy before his own degenerative super powers cause him to lose his mind?

.

The Incorruptible comic series focuses on Max Damage’s transition from supervillain to superhero. Irredeemable was created by Mark Waid and illustrated by Peter Krause. Being one of the most impactful comic book series of its time, Irredeemable ran for 37 issues and sold over 1.5m copies. Sister series Incorruptible ran for 30 issues and sold over 1m copies.

.

Mark Waid released a statement saying:

Peter and I are thrilled to death that a writer and a director we both admire are bringing Irredeemable to life in a faithful and respectful way while inventing their own twists and turns. Their unique take on the comic makes it unlike any anti-hero story I’ve ever heard, and I love it.

.

Kemp Powers will executive produce alongside Adam Yoelin, while Jeymes Samuel will produce the project alongside Shawn ‘Jay-Z’ Carter, James Lassiter, Stephen Christy and Ross Richie from Boom! Studios.
