Deadline is exclusively reporting that another SEGA video game franchise, Streets of Rage, looks set to get a film adaptation as sources tell them a spec script has been written by Derek Kolstad, and dj2 Entertainment and Escape Artists have boarded the project to produce it.
.
The video game series, which first launched on the SEGA Genesis/Mega Drive (pending on who you ask) console back in 1991, had players playing former police offers who battle a crime syndicate.
.
The franchise has spawned two further sequels in 1992 and 1994, fans of the games would have to wait until 2020 for the fourth instalment to come out across various platforms such as Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch. Streets of Rage 4 showed that there was still interest in the franchise, selling more than 2.5m copies worldwide.
.
This is the latest project to involve dj2 Entertainment, who recently this year signed an overall deal with Amazon, as they are looking to adapt It Takes Two for television and film.
