Variety is exclusively reporting that Stephanie Hsu is the latest name to join the cast for the upcoming Disney+ series American Born Chinese.
The series is set to focus on Jin Wang, an average teenager juggling his high school social life with his home life. When he meets a new foreign student on the first day of the school year, even more worlds collide as Jin is unwittingly entangled in a battle of Chinese mythological gods.
The series is set to explore themes such as identity, culture, and family. It is an adaptation of Gene Luen Yang’s graphic novel, which is adapted here by Kelvin Yu, who serves as executive producer and showrunner. Destin Daniel Cretton will be executive producing as well as directing the series. Other executive producers include Melvin Mar, Jake Kasdan, Erin O’Malley, Asher Goldstein and Gene Luen Yang.
Stephanie Hsu joins a cast that includes Michelle Yeoh, Ben Wang, Yeo Yann Yann, Chin Han, Daniel Wu, Ke Huy Quan, Jim Liu and Sydney Taylor.
