Deadline is exclusively reporting that Lionsgate and Amazon Studios are developing a sequel to the 2018 film A Simple Favor, with Anna Kendrick and Blake Lively returning to reprise their roles and Paul Feig returning to direct.

The synopsis for the original film is as follows:

Stephanie, a dedicated mother and popular vlogger, befriends Emily, a mysterious upper-class woman whose son Nicky attends the same school as Miles, Stephanie’s son. When Emily asks her to pick Nicky up from school and then disappears, Stephanie undertakes an investigation that will dive deep into Emily’s cloudy past.

The original film mixed a nice blend of genres, going from being a comedy to becoming a mystery thriller, and it certainly captured viewers in 2018, earning over $97.6m at the worldwide box office with its $20m budget.

The screenplay for the sequel is being written by Jessica Sharzer (who will also executive produce), with Feig also serving as producer alongside Laura Fischer. Feigco Entertainment will produce the project, as Meredith Wieck and Scott O’Brien will oversee on behalf of Lionsgate.
