Showtime have released the teaser trailer for the upcoming drama series American Gigolo.
The official synopsis for the series is as follows:
American Gigolo, a present-day reimagining of the iconic 1980 film, follows Julian Kaye after his wrongful conviction release from 15 years in prison as he navigates his complicated relationships with his former lover Michelle, his troubled mother, and the people who betrayed him. While Julian struggles to reconcile the escort he was in the past and the man he is today, Detective Sunday seeks the truth about the murder that sent Julian to prison all those years ago, unearthing a much larger conspiracy along the way.
Initially set for a ten-episode order, the series has been shut down a few times due to creative departures. It was first shutdown when David Hollander, who developed the series, was removed from the project following an investigation into allegations of misconduct. Then co-executive producer, David Bar Katz, stepped in to serve as showrunner for the series but soon enough he also departed due to creative differences.
The series stars Jon Bernthal, Gretchen Mol, Rosie O’Donnell, Lizzie Brocheré, Leland Orser, Gabriel LaBelle, Wayne Brady and Laura Liguori.
American Gigolo will premiere on Showtime later in the year.
