Netflix have officially given the greenlight for one of the biggest series on the streamer, Squid Game, to be renewed for a second season.

The official synopsis for the series is as follows:

A mysterious invitation to join the game is sent to people at risk who are in dire need of money. 456 participants from all walks of life are locked into a secret location where they play games in order to win 45.6 billion won. Every game is a Korean traditional children’s game such as Red Light, Green Light, but the consequence of losing is death. Who will be the winner, and what is the purpose behind this game?

The series become one of the biggest television shows on the streamer ever, with the first season logging over 1.65 BILLION HOURS of viewing in the first four weeks of its release in autumn last year.

Squid Game creator, Hwang Dong-hyuk, released a statement saying:

Hwang Dong-hyuk has previously indicated that the second season would take some time to develop, with the possibly of the second season premiering near the end of 2023 or the start of 2024.

The first season of Squid Game had a cast that included Lee Jung-jae, Park Hae-soo, Wi Ha-joon, HoYeon Jung, O Yeong-su, Heo Sung-tae, Anupam Tripathi and Kim Joo-ryoung.
