At the Annecy International Film Festival, Sony Pictures Animation revealed a new look image of the new antagonist for the upcoming film Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse, as well as announce that Jason Schwartzman, Jorma Taccone and Shea Whigham have joined the voice cast.
.
The official synopsis for the upcoming animated sequel is as follows:
Miles Morales returns for the next chapter of the Oscar-winning Spider-Verse saga, an epic adventure that will transport Brooklyn’s full-time, friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man across the Multiverse to join forces with Gwen Stacy and a new team of Spider-People to face off with a villain more powerful than anything they have ever encountered.
Jason Schwartzman will be voicing the new villain Spot, whose black spots are inter-dimensional portals that the Spot can use to transport himself. He can also fling them from his body and onto various surfaces as traps for others. Jorma Taccone will be voicing an ‘an anachronistic version’ of the Vulture, and Shea Whigham will be voicing Gwen Stacy’s ‘by-the-book cop’ father, George Stacy.
.
The sequel is being directed by Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers and Justin K. Thompson, with the screenplay written by Phil Lord, Christopher Miller and David Callaham, with Avi Arad, Amy Pascal, Lord & Miller, and Christina Steinberg serving as producers.
.
The new additions will join a voice cast that includes Shameik Moore, Hailee Steinfeld and Oscar Isaac.
.
Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse is scheduled for cinematic release on the 2nd June 2023.
