The Iron Claw: Zac Efron To Star In Wrestling Drama Film From Writer-Director Sean Durkin At A24

Deadline is exclusively reporting that Zac Efron has signed up to star in A24’s The Iron Claw, which is a wrestling drama focusing on the Von Erich family, set to be written and directed by Sean Durkin.

.

Based on the true story of the Von Erich’s, the film will follow the rise and fall of the Von Erich family, a dynasty of wrestlers who made a huge impact on the sport from the 1960’s to the present day.

.

The report doesn’t state what role Zac Efron will be playing in the film, though it is definitely an interesting and tragic story (whose has been explored in recent years on an episode of VICE’s wrestling documentary Dark Side of the Ring) to bring onto the big screen. Fritz Von Erich was a major name during his time in the NWA (National Wrestling Alliance) promotion during the 50s/60s, and his sons (Kevin, David, Kerry, Mike and Chris) would go on to become wrestlers themselves.

.

A24 will be financing as well as producing the project. Also serving as producers are Tessa Ross, Derrin Schlesinger and Harrison Huffman. The film was developed by House Productions, with the support of Access Entertainment and BBC Films.
