Its was announced via the Star Wars social media accounts that Amandla Stenberg has been cast as the lead for the upcoming Disney+ series The Acolyte.

The Acolyte is described as a mystery-thriller, which will take viewers into a galaxy of shadowy secrets and emerging dark-side powers in the final days of the High Republic era. In the Star Wars universe, an acolyte can refer to individuals with force abilities who learn from a more experienced Sith Lord.

While Amanda Stenberg’s character hasn’t been officially revealed, it is assumed that she will be the titular acolyte. Her credits include The Hate U Give and Dear Evan Hansen.

The series, which was announced back in December 2020, hails from Leslye Headland, who serves as writer, executive producer and showrunner. It’s believed that The Acolyte will commence production later in the year.
