In the 2019 original film it focused on Arthur Fleck, a clown-for-hire and an aspiring comedian who lives with his mother in Gotham City, which is currently on the brink of collapse due to the financial gap between the working class and the upper class, as well as the rise in unemployment and crime. Through the course of the film, we witness Arthur’s descend into madness and follow his transformation into becoming one of the most recognisable villains of all time.

.

Not much is known as of yet about the sequel, which director Todd Phillips has been teasing since early June, with many believing that the title of the film refers to a medical term for an identical or similar mental disorder that affects two or more individuals. While she wasn’t mentioned in the report, it was mentioned as well last month that Lady Gaga was in negotiations with the studio to star opposite Joaquin Phoenix.

.

News of a sequel came as no surprise to anybody, as the 2019 original film was a HUGE box office hit for the studio, considering its modest budget of $55m, it ended up earning over $1bn worldwide.
