Deadline is exclusively reporting that Zazie Beetz is in negotiations with Warner Bros. to reprise the role of Sophie Dumond for Joker: Folie À Deux.
In the 2019 original film it focused on Arthur Fleck, a clown-for-hire and an aspiring comedian who lives with his mother in Gotham City, which is currently on the brink of collapse due to the financial gap between the working class and the upper class, as well as the rise in unemployment and crime. Through the course of the film, we witness Arthur’s descend into madness and follow his transformation into becoming one of the most recognisable villains of all time.
Zazie Beetz portrayed Sophie Dumond in the original film, who was a neighbour of Arthur Fleck, a single mother who Arthur had delusions of having a romance with.
Not much is known as of yet about the sequel, which director Todd Phillips has been teasing since early June, with many believing that the title of the film refers to a medical term for an identical or similar mental disorder that affects two or more individuals.
Zazie Beetz could join a cast that will include Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga.
Joker: Folie À Deux is scheduled for cinematic release on the 4th October 2024.
