Variety is exclusively reporting that the upcoming Disney+ series The Ballad of Renegade Nell will be toplined by Louisa Harland, Nick Mohammed, Joely Richardson and Adrian Lester.

The upcoming adventure/fantasy series centres around an 18th century young woman who finds herself unwittingly becoming the most famous highwaywoman in the country.

Louisa Harland (whose credits include Derry Girls and Boys of County Hell) will be playing the role of quick-witted and courageous Nell, who ends up on an extraordinary adventure after she is framed for murder – a twist of fate that has far bigger consequences than Nell could ever dream of. Nick Mohammed (whose credits include Ted Lasso and Intelligence) will be playing the role of Billy Blind, a ‘plucky but prickly’ spirit. Joely Richardson (whose credits include The Sandman and Nip/Tuck) will be playing the role of eccentric newspaper magnate Lady Eularia Moggerhanger. Adrian Lester (whose credits include Hustle and The Undeclared War) will be playing the role of Nell’s nemesis and political schemer the Earl of Poynton.

Alice Kremelberg (whose credits include The Sinner and Orange Is The New Black) will be playing the role of young widow Sofia Wilmot, who teams up with master manipulator Poynton in a quest for her own independence. Frank Dillane (whose credits include The Essex Serpent and Fear The Walking Dead) will be playing the role of “charming rogue” Charles Devereux. Craig Parkinson (whose credits include Line of Duty and Intergalactic) will be playing the role of Nell’s kind-hearted father Sam. Pip Torrens (whose credits include The Crown and The Nevers) will be playing the role of Sofia’s father, Lord Blancheford. Jake Dunn (whose credits include Get Even and Half Bad) will be playing the role of Thomas, Sofia’s bullying brother. Enyi Okoronkwo (whose credits include The Lazarus Project and Giri/Haji) will be playing the role of stable boy Rasselas. Newcomers Bo Bragason and Florence Keen as Nell’s younger sisters Roxy and George.

The eight-part series is being written and executive produced by Sally Wainwright. Ben Taylor, Amanda Brotchie and MJ Delaney will be directing the episodes. Faith Penhale, Will Johnston and Louise Mutter will executive produce for The Lookout Point alongside Johanna Devereaux, Scripted Content VP at Disney+. Jon Jennings will serve as series producer, while Stella Merz will serve as producer.
