The Young King: Michael Shannon, Kiersey Clemons And Barbie Ferreira To Star In Drag Comedy

Variety is reporting that Michael Shannon, Kiersey Clemons and Barbie Ferreira have signed on to star in drag king comedy drama The Young King.

Set in ’90s Las Vegas, the film follows Jules, an aspiring drag king who comes to Las Vegas to reconnect with her estranged father Mick, and to make her debut performance in America’s biggest drag king revue. Mick, a legendary gambler and parti-time children’s party clown, is less than excited to see his daughter ‘Julia’ presenting as masculine, wearing suits and chasing after Ronnie, the no-nonsense dancer who he frequents regularly. During an unforgettable whirlwind weekend, Jules and Mick’s world collide.

Kiersey Clemons (whose recent credits include Zack Snyder’s Justice League and Fairfax) will be playing the role of Jules, Michael Shannon (whose recent credits include Bullet Train and Amsterdam) will be playing the role of Mick, and Barbie Ferreira (whose recent credits include Euphoria and Nope) will be playing the role of Ronnie.

The film will mark the directorial feature debut of Larin Sullivan, who also wrote the script for the film. Kiersey Clemens will also be serving as producer alongside Corporate Witchcraft’s Kim Bailey and Isabel Marden. Songwriter Justin Tranter will serve as executive music producer on the project, and will also create original music for the film.

Production is being scheduled to commence early 2023, with Mister Smith Entertainment handling international sales at the upcoming American Film Market (AFM), with WME Independent handling North American sales.
