Deadline is exclusively reporting that Taron Egerton and the creator and executive producers behind the critically acclaimed drama series Black Bird are re-teaming for another crime series at Apple TV+ called Firebug, which is inspired by events surrounding notorious California arsonist John Leonard Orr.
The series will follow a troubled detective and an enigmatic arson investigator as they pursue the trails of two serial arsonists.
The series is inspired by the events presented in truth.media’s Firebug podcast, which was hosted by Kary Antholis, focusing on the tale of John Leonard Orr. Orr was a former firefighter turned arson investigator for the Glendale Fire Department in Southern California, who was found to be the cause of high-profile fires across California in the 1980s and ’90s that led to millions of dollars in damages and four deaths.
The series is being developed by Black Bird creator Dennis Lehane, who will also be writing and executive producing. Richard Pleper, Kary Antholis, Bradley Thomas, and Dan Friedkin, who also worked on Black Bird, will also be serving as executive producers on the series, as will Egerton and Mark Smerling.
