Beautiful: Daisy Edgar-Jones To Play Carole King In Musical Biopic, Lisa Cholodenko To Direct

Variety is exclusively reporting that Daisy Edgar-Jones has landed the role of Carole King in the upcoming film adaptation of the stage musical Beautiful at Sony Pictures, which Lisa Cholodenko will be directing.

The film is an adaptation of the Broadway musical ‘Beautiful: The Carole King Musical’, which tells the story of the early life and career of the American singer/songwriter.

Carole King released a statement saying:

Daisy has a spirit and energy that I recognised as myself when I was younger. She’s a tremendous talent and I know she’s going to give a great performance.

In 2015, Sony Pictures acquired the rights to use Carole King’s songs, as well as life rights from King and other artists who featured in the musical. The musical ran for five years on Broadway, earning a Tony Award during that time for Jessie Mueller’s lead performance.

Cholodenko and Stuart Blumberg have recently completed their own pass on the script for the film adaptatin. Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman will produce under the Playtone banner, with Paul Blake, who also produced the musical. Sherry Kondor, Christine Russell, Steven Shareshian and Mike Bosner will serve as executive producers.
