The Hollywood Reporter is exclusively reporting that Netflix is developing a sequel to the 2022 animated film The Sea Beast, as director Chris Williams signs an overall deal with the streaming company.
The official synopsis for the original film is as follows:
In an era when terrifying beasts roamed the seas, monster hunters were celebrated heroes – and none were more beloved than the great Jacob Holland. But when young Maisie Brumble stows away on his fabled ship, he’s saddled with an unexpected ally. Together they embark on an epic journey into uncharted waters and make history.
The sequel will see the return of monster hunter Jacob Holland and his now adopted daughter, Maisie Brumble. The sequel announcement and Williams’ overall deal news comes after it was revealed that The Sea Beast has become the most-viewed animated film in Netflix’s history.
The film also has the second-longest ‘Top 10’ tenure for a Netflix film launched in 2022, with seven straight weeks in the Global Weekly Top 10 Films list. It was also in the Top 10 for forty-days or more in thirty countries.
The Sea Beast has a voice cast that includes Karl Urban, Zaris-Angel Hator, Jared Harris, Marianne Jean-Baptiste, Dan Stevens and Kathy Burke.
