Deadline is reporting that Betty Gilpin, Dane DeHaan, Shea Whigham, Joe Tippett, Jai Courtney, Kyle Bradley Davis, Nick Hargrove, Derek Hinkey, Saura Lightfoot Leon, Preston Mota and Shawnee Pourier are the latest names to join the cast for the upcoming Netflix limited series, American Primeval, from Pete Berg, Eric Newman and Mark L. Smith.

The limited series is described as a raw, adventurous exploration of the American West. The violent collisions of cultures, religions and communities as men and women fight and die for control of this new world – for a land they truly believe is their destiny. The ensemble tells a story of the sacrifice all must pay when they choose to enter a lawless and untamed wilderness.

Betty Gilpin (whose credits include GLOW and The Hunt) will be playing the role of Sara Rowell, an extremely capable woman with an air of composure and grace that seems out of place in Fort Bridger as she seeks a guide across the frontier for her and her son, Devin.

Dane DeHaan (whose credits include The Staircase and the upcoming Oppenheimer) will be playing the role of Jacob Pratt, a Mormon leading his family across the frontier to join other settlers in Utah. Shea Whigham (whose credits include The Gray Man and Perry Mason) will be playing the role of Jim Bridger, a grizzled realist but a decent man, Bridger runs his namesake Fort, a popular stopping point for settlers and trappers.

Joe Tippett (whose credits include Mare of Easttown and Spirited) will be playing the role of James Wolsey, a Mormon man leading a militia of men who don’t possess the moral code they claim they do. Jai Courtney (whose credits include The Suicide Squad and Black Site) will be playing the role of Virgil Cutter, a trapper and bounty hunter who sees opportunity in the naiveté of others. Kyle Bradley Davis (whose credits include American Horror Story and Into The Storm) will be playing the role of Tilly. One of Cutter’s trappers, Tilly is a nasty, dangerous man who doesn’t mind killing to get ahead and rather enjoys it when others fear him.

Nick Hargrove (whose credits include Devotion and Charmed) will be playing the role of Cottrell, a young man that helps out around Fort Bridger and serves as Jim Bridger’s right hand. Derek Hinkey (whose credits include Walker Independence) will be playing the role of Red Feather, the leader of a renegade group of Crow warriors known as the Wolf Clan. Saura Lightfoot Leon (whose credits include Life After Life and the upcoming Masters Of The Air) will be playing the role of Abish, a Mormon woman not content with being seen as the property of her husband, Jacob.

Preston Mota (whose credits include Asteroid City and Campfire) will be playing the role of Devin Rowell. A sensitive soul with a curious mind, Devin is Sara’s son. Shawnee Pourier (whose credits include Stranger Things and Dark Winds) will be playing the role of Two Moons, a young girl who flees her village with a strong will and drive to survive at all costs.

The new additions will star alongside previously cast Taylor Kitsch who plays Isaac, a traumatised man struggling to overcome his demons and find a reason to lie this brutal and punishing world. Pete Berg will be directing all episodes of the limited series, and will executive produce for Film 44 alongside Eric Newman (Grand Electric), and Mark L. Smith, who is writing all the episodes.
